Adhi Yoga

Adhi Yoga – Interpretation of this Powerful Yoga one should not miss

Combination of planets in a birth chart many times become extremely powerful and confers kingly life to the native. One of those powerful combinations that can be rarely seen in a birth chart is termed, Adhi Yoga. Adhi Yoga is one of the Raj yogas of the Vedic astrology. This yoga forms under certain combination of planets together with no malefic aspect from other planets.

What combination of planets forms Adhi Yoga?
Adhi Yoga is formed in a birth chart when the planets Mercury, Jupiter and Venus are placed in 6th, 7th and 8th houses respectively, from the moon.

Generally, when calculating the benefic and malefic effects of the planet, placement of the planets are calculated from Ascendant and from the zodiac sign aka Rashin, i.e from placement of moon.

Although there are considerations that the above combination arising from Ascendant (the three planets occupy three consecutive houses) also forms Adhi yoga. However, based on Vedic texts, it is formed when calculated from the Moon.

Example: Consider Taurus Ascendant and moon placed in 3rd house from Taurus, Cancer.

6th house - Mercury placed in Sagittarius

7th house – Jupiter in Capricorn

8th house - Venus in Aquarius

This forms Adhi yoga.

Mere placement of these planets in the chronological order as given above gives birth to this Raj yoga. However, the malefic or benefic nature of these planets, combination of other planets with these planets and aspects from other planets placed in a birth chart, increases or reduces the fruitful effects of this yoga.

There are contradictory opinions about this yoga, where the planets, Mercury, Jupiter and Venus can be placed in any order in the 6th, 7th and 8th houses, which is untrue. Jupiter placed in 6th or 8th house is malefic and lose its natural power and efficacy. So, this yoga is formed only when Mercury, Jupiter and Venus occupy 6th, 7th and 8th houses from moon respectively.

In general, these planets should not be aspected by or co-joined by any planets. It yoga makes the native a King, leader of a forces, surrounded by luxuries of life, will have long life and be healthy.

Adhi Yoga forms Gaja Kesari Yoga
Adhi yoga automatically includes one of the auspicious yoga, Gaja Kesari Yoga. It is formed when Jupiter is placed in quadrants (1st, 4th, 7th or 10th) from moon or vice versa. Adhi yoga is formed when Jupiter is placed in 7th house from moon.

Understanding about Benefic and Malefic Planets that form Adhi Yoga
Mercury in 6th house can be malefic or benefic and similarly, this rule applies to all three planets that from this yoga.

When one planet is benefic among the three, (considering the Adhi yoga is formed in horoscope), the native will be a leader. If two planets are natural benefics, it makes the native a minister or commander or a person who is empowered with a lot of power and influence. If all three planets are benefic, the native will be a renowned personality, who can achieve great heights in life and be an eminent person in the world, influential than a King!

However, the overall effects of this yoga is reduced when malefic planet afflicts or aspect or co-joins any of these planets.

For instance, consider the above example. Jupiter is in 7th house in Capricorn. Jupiter is debilitated in Capricorn and it is considered a malefic, which reduces the effect of Adhi Yoga.
