Magha Nakshatra

Magha is the tenth star in our constellation of 27 nakshatras in Vedic astrology. Magha is in the constellation of Leo and represented by Regulus, the brightest star in Leo. Its presiding deity is the Pitris or our ancestors or rather the fathers of humanity or our guardian angels who protect us from calamities. The controlling planet of this nakshatra is Ketu and its gana is Rakshas or Demon.


Being controlled by the pitris, the natives have a strong bonding to their lineage and have great expectations for their children. They believe in traditions and rituals and proud of their family lineage. They follow a strong moral conduct and appreciative of others who follow an ethical code. They are pure souls, generous and humanitarian at heart, but are also aggressive, hot tempered and strong enough to defeat their enemies because of the influence of the Ketu.

Magha is also referred as Maghaban as it is the cause of light and brightness. The literal meaning of the Magha nakshatra is ‘magnificent’ or ‘mighty’ or ‘benevolent’ or ‘bountiful’. It is considered as a Little King or Sun among all the nakshatras.

Royal Throne or Palanquin: This nakshatra is represented by the symbol Palanquin or the royal seat, which also has its deeper meaning in the sense that the royal throne represents power, status, royalty, and prestige. And the palanquin is associated with carrying royal people. Thus, natives born under Magha can attain high position and power. They are magnanimous and have a royal like appearance.

The compatible nakshatras for Magha Nakshatra are generally Ashwini , Mrigashirsha and Ashlesha. The incompatible nakshatra is Chitra. Male, female born in the birth star Poorva Phalguni, Jyeshta and Satabhisha are also compatible. Krittika, Rohini, Punarvasu 4th quarter only, Hasta, Swati, Vishakha are incompatible nakshatras with Magha Nakshatra.


Remedies for Magha Nakshatra

Being respectful towards elders, the natives will be benefitted if they perform the shradha ceremony for their ancestors, especially during respective tithi.
Worshipping the Goddess Kali or Lord Shiva is helpful
Chanting the root mantra "Om Gham" and "Om Ngam" 108 times is also recommended to remove obstacles.
